Regular Season Round 11: Zalgiris - Neptunas 86-48

There was a change at the LKL leadership position after last games. Round 11 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Neptunas (8-2). They were crushed by second ranked Zalgiris (8-1) 86-48 on Sunday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris. Neptunas managed to win third quarter 11-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Neptunas' 26. They outrebounded Neptunas 42-23 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Neptunas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for the former international power forward Darius Songaila (204-78, college: Wake Forest) who led his team to a victory scoring 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international center Robertas Javtokas (210-80, college: Arizona) helped adding 6 points and 11 rebounds. The former international forward Deividas Gailius (200-88) responded with 8 points and 7 rebounds and American point guard Mustafa Shakur (190-84, college: Arizona) scored 9 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Zalgiris have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Lietuvos rytas. Neptunas at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Zalgiris. Neptunas will play next round against Mazeikiai trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Zalgiris will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Lietkabelis in Panevezys.
