Regular Season Round 8: BG 89 Avides - Freiburg 65-67

The most exciting game of round 8 in the DBBL took place in Rotenburg. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 6th ranked Rotenburg/Scheessel (4-4) to eighth ranked Eisvogel Freiburg (4-4) 67-65 in the game for the fifth place. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 22-16 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Eisvogel Freiburg shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 53.6 percentage. The best player for the winners was New Caledonian forward Soana Lucet (186-87, college: Arizona) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds. American guard Bobbi Knudsen (173, college: Mont.St. Billings) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Eisvogel Freiburg players scored in double figures. American power forward Kierra Mallard (190-90, college: Texas Tech) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Pia Mankertz (170-90) added 13 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Eisvogel Freiburg moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Donau-Ries and BG 89 Avides. Eisvogel Freiburg is looking forward to face league's second-placed TV Saarlouis Royals at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Rotenburg/Scheessel will play against Herner TC and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
