Regular Season Round 7: Speyer - Keltern 67-72

The game between Top Four teams took place in Dudenhofen. 4th placed host Speyer / Schifferstadt (5-2) lost to leader Gruner Stern Keltern (7-0) 72-67The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Speyer / Schifferstadt won third quarter 21-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gruner Stern Keltern made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. American center Mara Hjelle (185-89, college: Wayne St., NE) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Her fellow American import guard Melissa Zornig (177-92, college: UCSB) chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds. Canadian forward Grace Fishbein (180-90) produced 22 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and forward Uta Gelbke (177-86) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Gruner Stern Keltern have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They keep a position of South leader, which they share with Bamberg. Loser Speyer / Schifferstadt keeps the fourth place with two games lost. Gruner Stern Keltern will meet at home ASC Theresianum Mainz (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Speyer / Schifferstadt will play against BasCats Heidelberg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
