Regular Season Round 5: Istanbul BSB - Selcuk Univ. 91-88 OT

Istanbul BSB (2-3) survived in overtime against Selcuk Universitesi (2-3) by three points 91-88 on Saturday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 19-15. But Selcuk Universitesi won second period 25-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Selcuk Universitesi used huge pressure winning it 17-16 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 14-17. Selcuk Universitesi was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The game was also dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Alex Acker (195-83, college: Pepperdine, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored 34 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Power forward Alex Stepheson (208-87, college: USC) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Istanbul BSB's coach Murat Polat allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Guard Troy DeVries (193-82, college: N.Mexico) produced 38 points (!!!) and 4 assists and forward Sean Williams (208-86, college: Boston Coll.) added 14 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Istanbul BSB moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Selcuk Universitesi. Selcuk Universitesi lost third consecutive game. Istanbul BSB will face higher ranked Anadolu Efes (#5) in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
