Regular Season Round 7: Hanau - Wuerzburg 73-80

There was no surprise in Hanau where 11th ranked White Wings (1-6) were defeated by second ranked Wuerzburg (5-2) 80-73 on Saturday. Wuerzburg dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to White Wings' 26. The game was also dominated by American players. Guard Donovan Morris (191-84, college: Long Beach St.) fired a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Center John Florveus (211-90, college: Georgia) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Wuerzburg's coach Soren Zimmermann used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Guard Cardell McFarland (182-87, college: Ky Wesleyan) produced 17 points and 7 assists and forward Cory Cooperwood (200-88, college: Wright St.) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Newly promoted Wuerzburg maintains second place in Group South with 5-2 record having just three points less than leader Rist Wedel, which they share with 3 other teams. White Wings at the other side keep the eleventh position with six games lost. Wuerzburg will face Dragons Rhoendorf (#5) at home in the next round. White Wings will play against Fraport Skyliners II (#4) in Frankfurt and hope to win that game.
