Regular Season Round 6: Pertevniyal - Socar Petkim 90-81

We should mention about the upset which took place in Istanbul, where higher ranked Socar Petkim (4-2) lost to seventeenth ranked Pertevniyal (2-4) in a road game 81-90. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Socar Petkim. It looked good early as Socar Petkim took an 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Pertevniyal had a 26-15 second period charge getting the lead and Socar Petkim was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 81-90. Pertevniyal made 22-of-26 charity shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Pertevniyal had a 32-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Socar Petkim helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American power forward Damen Bell-Holter (206-90, college: ORU) notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Okben Ulubay (200-97) supported him with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Four Pertevniyal players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 22 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists by American forward Tyler Smith (201-86, college: Tennessee) did not help to save the game for Socar Petkim. American-DR Congolese center Bambale Osby (203-86, college: Maryland) added 20 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Pertevniyal moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with 5 other teams. Newly promoted Socar Petkim dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. Pertevniyal's next round opponent will be Mamak DSI (#14) in Ankara. Socar Petkim will play at home against Yesilgiresun (#12) and hope to win that game.
