Regular Season Round 7: Zehlendorf - Gruenberg 57-66

Not a big story in a game in Berlin where bottom-ranked Zehlendorf (0-7) was defeated by tenth ranked Baskets Grunberg (2-5) 66-57 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 13-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 66-57. Baskets Grunberg forced 20 Zehlendorf turnovers. It was a great evening for swingman Natascha Heuser (178-82) who led her team to a victory scoring 24 points. Center Kira Barra (188-98) helped adding 6 points and 12 rebounds. At the losing side Latvian forward Liene Jekabsone (185-88, college: FIU) responded with 13 points and 7 rebounds and forward Janina Thurau (177-88) scored 19 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Baskets Grunberg moved-up to ninth place in North, which they share with Hagen Phoenix. Zehlendorf lost their seventh game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with seven games lost. Baskets Grunberg will face higher ranked TG Neuss (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zehlendorf will play against BG 74 Veilchen (#7) in Goettingen and hopes to get finally their first victory.
