Regular Season Round 9: BC Kyiv - Hoverla 72-69
Date: November 9, 2014
Rather expected game when 10th ranked Hoverla (2-6) was edged on the road by eighth ranked BC Kyiv (4-5) 72-69 on Sunday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-11. But Hoverla won second period 18-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when BC Kyiv made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was the former international Artem Shvets (200-85) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. The former international Ruslan Otverchenko (192-90, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. Four BC Kyiv players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Mackey McKnight (183, college: Lehigh, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) who recorded 19 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and the former international Vladislav Podolian (194-86) added 20 points respectively. Hoverla's coach Evgeni Murzin tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for BC Kyiv. They moved-up to seventh place. Hoverla lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. BC Kyiv will face higher ranked Ferro-ZNTU (#6) in Zaporozhye in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hoverla will play at home against Dnipro and hope to win that game.
