Regular Season Round 9: Budivelnyk - Halychyna 96-58
Date: November 9, 2014
Bottom-ranked Halychyna (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 96-58 loss to second ranked Budivelnyk (7-2) in Kyiv on Sunday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game without a history. Budivelnyk led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Halychyna's 22. Budivelnyk forced 22 Halychyna turnovers and outrebounded them 39-19 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Halychyna's players. Halychyna was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Oleksandr Kolchenko (194-88, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) who scored 24 points and 6 rebounds. The former international point guard Denys Lukashov (190-89, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) chipped in 15 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Anton Dziuba (204-95) who recorded 9 points and center Oleksandr Berhin (205-85) added 10 points respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Budivelnyk. Defending champion maintains second place with 7-2 record behind leader Khimik. Halychyna lost their seventh game in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost. Budivelnyk will face Mykolaiv (#5) in Mykolaiv in the next round. Halychyna will play at home against DniproAzot (#10) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
