Regular Season Round 3: Sangalhos - Ginasio 66-69

A very interesting game took place in Sangalhos. It ended with only three-point home defeat of Sangalhos (0-3) to Ginasio (2-1) 69-66 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Sangalhos were ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 20-13 third quarter run of Ginasio. It was a good game for point guard Pedro Marques (173-95) who led his team to a victory with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Naturalized Cape Verdean forward Joaquim Soares (198-83) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Four Ginasio players scored in double figures. Ginasio's coach Joao Perdo Goncalves allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Forward Luis Fonte (191-79) answered with 17 points and 6 rebounds and Gonzalo Catarino added 16 points and 4 assists in the effort for Sangalhos. Ginasio's next round opponent will be Vasco (#9) in Porto which should be theoretically an easy game. Sangalhos will play on the road against Esgueira / Oli and hope to get finally their first victory.
