Regular Season Round 8: Fortuna - Utena 59-67

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Klaipeda. Top-ranked Utena faced 4th ranked Fortuna. Guests from Utena (8-0) defeated host Fortuna (4-4) 67-59. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 17-8. But Fortuna won second period 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Rima Valentiene (170-78) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 4 assists and international guard Sandra Linkeviciene (176-82) who added 15 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. International swingman Marina Solopova (180-90) responded with 21 points and 9 rebounds and international Monika Grigalauskyte (190-92) scored 9 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. Fortuna's coach Ramune Kumpiene rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Utena have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 8-0 record. Loser Fortuna dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. Utena will meet at home Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Fortuna will play against Jaunieji Talentai and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
