Regular Season Round 8: Keltern - Mainz 101-60

Everything went according to plan when top-ranked Gruner Stern Keltern (8-0) outleveled at home 6th ranked ASC Theresianum Mainz (4-4) 101-60 on Sunday. The game without a history. Gruner Stern Keltern led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to ASC Theresianum Mainz's 38. Gruner Stern Keltern forced 21 ASC Theresianum Mainz turnovers and outrebounded them 36-19 including 16 on the offensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Gruner Stern Keltern especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Melissa Zornig (177-92, college: UCSB) who scored 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import center Mara Hjelle (185-89, college: Wayne St., NE) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Four Gruner Stern Keltern players scored in double figures. Guard Maria Neufurth (173-88) produced 14 points and Czech guard Karolina Jandova (181-91) added 13 points respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gruner Stern Keltern have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They keep a position of South leader, which they share with Bamberg. Loser ASC Theresianum Mainz keeps the sixth place with four games lost. Gruner Stern Keltern will face league's leader Don Bosco Bamberg on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. ASC Theresianum Mainz will play against BasCats Heidelberg (#3) and hope to win that game.
