Regular Season Round 15: Zalgiris II - Perlas-MRU 73-82

Very predictable result in Kaunas where second ranked Perlas-MRU (11-4) beat 9th ranked Zalgiris II (7-8) 82-73 on Friday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 32-6. But Zalgiris II won second period 23-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Perlas-MRU dominated on the defensive end, holding Zalgiris II to just 6 points in first quarter. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Perlas-MRU shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for forward Rytis Pipiras (203-95) who led his team to a victory scoring 13 points and 5 assists. Forward Remigijus Sugintas (200-87) helped adding 11 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was center Nerijus Barauskas (207-92) with 15 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Martynas Varnas (196-97) scored 10 points and 4 assists. Five Zalgiris II players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Perlas-MRU keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Ezerunas-Karys. Loser Zalgiris II dropped to the eighth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Rasai and Palanga. Perlas-MRU will meet at home Palanga (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zalgiris II will play against Petrochema in Jonava and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
