Regular Season Round 14: Lietuvos rytas - Dzukija 87-71

Rather predictable result in Vilnius where second ranked Lietuvos rytas (11-2) defeated 5th ranked Dzukija (7-7) 87-71. The game was mostly controlled by Lietuvos rytas. Dzukija was better in third quarter 19-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Lietuvos rytas won last quarter 22-8. They also forced 21 Dzukija turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Dzukija helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Swingman Gediminas Orelikas (200-90) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. American guard Travis Leslie (193-90, college: Georgia) contributed with 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Lietuvos rytas players scored in double figures. Forward Vilmantas Dilys (208-87) replied with 17 points and the former international swingman Arturas Jomantas (200-85) added 8 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Dzukija. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Lietuvos rytas maintains second position with 11-2 record having just -1 point less than leader Zalgiris, which they share with Neptunas. Dzukija at the other side keeps the fifth place with seven games lost. Lietuvos rytas' next round opponent will be Lietkabelis (#9) in Panevezys and are hoping to win another game. Dzukija will play at home against Juventus (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
