Regular Season Round 9: Utena - H-Sirenos 85-75

LMKL top team - Utena (9-0) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat sixth ranked Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas (2-7) 85-75. The game was mostly controlled by Utena. Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas was better in fourth quarter 32-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Utena dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas' 42. They outrebounded Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas 38-24 including a 30-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. International center Kristina Alminaite (205-90) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and international guard Sandra Linkeviciene (176-82) chipped in 14 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Utena's coach Alfredas Vainauskas allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was forward Akvile Baronenaite (185-93) with 21 points and 7 rebounds and the former international guard Rasa Zemantauskaite-Matla (176-81) scored 16 points and 7 steals. Five Utena and four Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas players scored in double figures. Utena have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-0 record. Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas at the other side keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. They share it with Jaunieji Talentai. Utena will play against Aistes-LSU (#4) in Kaunas in the next round. Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas will play on the road against Jaunieji Talentai in Vilnius and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
