There was no surprise when 12th ranked Turk Telekom (2-5) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Karsiyaka (4-3) 76-65 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 11 points. Karsiyaka dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Turk Telekom's 22. Colombian-Spanish power forward Juan Palacios (206-85) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Bobby Dixon (178-83, college: Troy, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Karsiyaka players scored in double figures. Karsiyaka's coach Ufuk Sarica allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international forward Umit Sonkol (206-82) produced 13 points and 8 rebounds and American forward Josh Carter (200-88, college: Texas A&M) added 18 points respectively for lost side. Karsiyaka moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Besiktas and Selcuk Univ. Loser Turk Telekom dropped to the thirteenth position with five games lost. They share it with Istanbul BSB. Karsiyaka will meet Royal Hali (#12) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Turk Telekom will play against Galatasaray and hope to secure a win.
