Regular Season Round 9: Mainz - Heidelberg 62-55

There was a minor upset when 3rd placed BasCats Heidelberg (7-2) lost on the road to sixth ranked ASC Theresianum Mainz (5-4) 62-55 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 8 points after three quarters before their 22-7 charge, which allowed them to win the game. ASC Theresianum Mainz dominated on the defensive end, holding BasCats Heidelberg to just 7 points in fourth quarter. It was a good game for Canadian guard Lauren Mortier (175-89) who led her team to a victory with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Lilian Koch (180-90) contributed with 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American center Erica Carlson (193-88, college: Dixie St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds and point guard Sara Kranzhofer (172-96) added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for BasCats Heidelberg. BasCats Heidelberg's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. ASC Theresianum Mainz maintains sixth place in South with 5-4 record. Loser BasCats Heidelberg keeps the third position with two games lost. ASC Theresianum Mainz will face Rhein MB II (#8) in Langen in the next round. BasCats Heidelberg will play at home against the league's second-placed Don Bosco Bamberg (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
