Very expected game when 11th ranked Oradea (2-11) was crushed at home by sixth ranked Galati (8-5) 95-70 on Monday. The game was mostly controlled by Galati. Oradea managed to win fourth quarter 21-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Galati forced 19 Oradea turnovers and outrebounded them 47-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. American forward Chelsey Lee (188-89, college: Rutgers) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. International swingman Romina Filip (174-89) chipped in 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Galati players scored in double figures. Galati's coach Theodosios Paralikas felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Fila Smith (173, college: Savannah St.) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Bianca Smiley (178-92, college: Buffalo St.) added 15 points respectively for lost side. Galati maintains sixth place with 8-5 record. Oradea lost third consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with Cluj Napoca. Galati will meet at home higher ranked Alba Iulia (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Oradea will play against Brasov (#7) and hope to secure a win.
