Regular Season Round 15: Mazeikiai - Tonybet 60-67

Bottom-ranked Mazeikiai (0-15) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 67-60 loss to eighth ranked Tonybet (6-9) in Mazeikiai on Thursday evening. The guests trailed by 17 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 7 points. They outrebounded Mazeikiai 44-26 including a 31-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for point guard Ovidijus Varanauskas (187-91) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 6 assists. Power forward Giedrius Staniulis (205-91) helped adding 16 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was swingman Vytautas Pikalavicius (196-90) with 11 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Eigirdas Zukauskas (201-92) scored 14 points. Tonybet maintains eighth place with 6-9 record. Mazeikiai lost their fifteenth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with 15 games lost. Tonybet will meet higher ranked Neptunas (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mazeikiai will have a break next round.
