Regular Season Round 17: Zalgiris II - Palanga 65-80

10th ranked Zalgiris II (7-10) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Palanga (8-9) with the biggest margin this round 80-65 on Friday night. The game was mostly controlled by Palanga. Zalgiris II was better in third quarter 24-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris II was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Erikas Kubilius (192-95) stepped up and scored 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and American forward Caleb Sutton (198-90, college: Judson) chipped in 20 points. Four Palanga players scored in double figures. Swingman Martynas Varnas (196-97) responded with 19 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and power forward Regimantas Miniotas (206-96) scored 11 points and 9 rebounds. Zalgiris II's coach Tomas Masiulis let to play twelve players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Palanga moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Rasai. Zalgiris II lost third consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with ten games lost. Palanga will face league's leader Ezerunas-Karys in Moletai in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zalgiris II will play on the road against Zanavykas (#12) in Sakiai and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
