Regular Season Round 11: Herner - Donau-Ries 63-53

There was no surprise when 5th ranked TH Wohnbau Angels (6-5) were defeated on the road by third ranked Herner TC (8-3) 63-53. It looked good early as TH Wohnbau Angels took an 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Herner TC had a 22-8 second period charge getting the lead and TH Wohnbau Angels were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 53-63. Herner TC dominated on the defensive end, holding TH Wohnbau Angels to just 6 points in fourth quarter. Herner TC forced 20 TH Wohnbau Angels turnovers. Strangely TH Wohnbau Angels outrebounded Herner TC 41-24 including a 30-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Quenese Davis (177-88, college: San Diego St.) who led the winners and scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Finnish guard Henna Salomaa (176-89, college: Oakland) accounted for 16 points for the winning side. Herner TC's coach Marek Piotrowski allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Canadian power forward Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe (188-91, college: Simon Fraser) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 19 rebounds and American Melissa Jeltema (175-88, college: Oakland) added 17 points and 6 rebounds respectively for TH Wohnbau Angels in the defeat. Herner TC maintains third place with 8-3 record having just three points less than leader Wasserburg. TH Wohnbau Angels at the other side keep the fifth position with five games lost. Herner TC's next round opponent will be Eisvogel Freiburg (#7) at home. TH Wohnbau Angels will play against Oberhausen and hope to win that game.
