Regular Season Round 6: Esgueira - Academia 70-71

The most exciting game of round 6 in the Proliga took place in Esgueira. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 8th ranked Esgueira / Oli (2-4) to sixth ranked Academia (3-2) 71-70 on Saturday evening. Esgueira / Oli was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 7-point lead after three quarters before a 18-10 charge of Academia, which allowed them to win the game. Academia outrebounded Esgueira / Oli 38-25 including 27 on the defensive glass. Alexey Kaputskiy scored 23 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Tiago Brito (180-85) chipped in 15 points during the contest. Four Academia players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Antonio Gaioso (188-87) with 21 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Pedro Valente (175-85) scored 17 points. Academia moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Benfica B. Esgueira / Oli at the other side keeps the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with Vasco. Academia is looking forward to face league's second-placed Electrico FC in Ponte de Sor in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Esgueira / Oli will play on the road against Benfica B (#5) in Lisboa and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
