There was no surprise when 10th ranked Academico FC (1-7) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Benfica (5-3) 62-50 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Sofia Ramalho (167-80) who scored 14 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). American swingman Tara Booker (185-89, college: G.Washington) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds. Benfica's coach Andre Cardoso used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. point guard Susana Lopes (168-96) produced 8 points and 11 rebounds and forward Ana Tenreiro (-82) added 9 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the guests. Benfica have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Academico FC lost fifth consecutive game. Academico FC at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the tenth position with seven games lost. Benfica will face Alges (#9) on the road in the next round where they are favorite.
