Regular Season Round 8: Selcuk Univ. - Banvit BK 83-75

The most important game in the last round took place in Konya between third ranked Banvit BK (5-3) and eighth ranked Selcuk Universitesi (5-3) on Sunday night. Banvit BK was defeated by Selcuk Universitesi in a tough game on the road 75-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Banvit BK. The game without a history. Selcuk Universitesi led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Strangely Banvit BK outrebounded Selcuk Universitesi 40-21 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Selcuk Universitesi especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. The best player for the winners was American guard Troy DeVries (193-82, college: N.Mexico) who scored 27 points. The other American import point guard Josh Mayo (182-87, college: Ill.-Chicago, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) chipped in 15 points. Dominican-American guard Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) produced 12 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists and Montenegrin power forward Vladimir Dragicevic (206-86) added 20 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Banvit BK players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Selcuk Universitesi have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Banvit BK. Selcuk Universitesi is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Eskisehir Basket (#16) in Edirne in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Banvit BK will play at home against the league's second-placed Anadolu Efes (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
