Regular Season Round 7: CAB Madeira - Vitoria SC 80-82

A very close game took place in Funchal between Vitoria SC and CAB Madeira. Third ranked Vitoria SC (5-2) got a very close victory on the road over 8th ranked CAB Madeira (2-4). Vitoria SC managed to escape with a 2-point win 82-80 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. CAB Madeira was trailing by 7 points at halftime but managed to get 7-point lead after three quarters before a 24-15 charge of Vitoria SC, which allowed them to win the game. They made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Doug Wiggins (185-88, college: Mountain St.) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 4 assists. The former international swingman Jose Silva (194-89) accounted for 19 points for the winning side. Four Vitoria SC players scored in double figures. American swingman Jovonni Shuler (195-87, college: Savannah St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import point guard Jordan Aaron (178-92, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) added 29 points respectively for CAB Madeira in the defeat. Vitoria SC moved-up to second place, which they share with Barcelos. Loser CAB Madeira keeps the eighth position with four games lost. Vitoria SC will meet at home bottom-ranked Alges (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. CAB Madeira will play against Lusitania (#6) in Angra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
