Regular Season Round 10: Mersin - I.T.U. 63-64

A very close game took place in Akdeniz between ITU Istanbul and Mersin. Seventeenth ranked ITU Istanbul (3-7) got a very close victory on the road over 18th ranked Mersin (2-8). ITU Istanbul managed to escape with a 1-point win 64-63 on Saturday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-14. But Mersin won second period 19-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Mersin 42-30 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Marshall Moses (198-89, college: Oklahoma St.) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and Mert Celep (206-95) supported him with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Even 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists by American guard Henry Antwan Dobie (183-78, college: LIU Brooklyn) did not help to save the game for Mersin. Guard Ihsan Yalcin Azizmahmutogullari (188-82) added 15 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. ITU Istanbul moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Mersin stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. They share it with Afyon and Istanbul DSI. ITU Istanbul will meet at home higher ranked Balikesir (#4) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Mersin will play against Meliksah (#15) and hope to secure a win.
