Regular Season Round 7: Abdullah Gul - Fenerbahce 60-65

Another exciting game was played in Kayseri between leader Fenerbahce and leader Abdullah Gul where Fenerbahce (7-0) beat Abdullah Gul (6-1) on the road 65-60. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Abdullah Gul. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It looked good early as Abdullah Gul took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Fenerbahce had a 13-9 second period charge getting the lead and Abdullah Gul was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 60-65. Fenerbahce dominated on the defensive end, holding Abdullah Gul to just 7 points in third quarter. Worth to mention a great performance of American Angel McCoughtry (187-86, college: Louisville) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of her eight free throws). Her fellow American import center Tina Charles (193-88, college: Connecticut) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Spanish center Laura Nicholls (189-89, agency: Josep and Nicolas) answered with 23 points and 8 rebounds and Greek forward Styliani Kaltsidou (188-83, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 9 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Abdullah Gul. Abdullah Gul's coach Ayhan Avci rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Fenerbahce have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Abdullah Gul at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with Galatasaray. Fenerbahce will play against Besiktas (#7) in Istanbul in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Abdullah Gul will play on the road against Adana ASKI (#10) in Mersin and hopes to get back on the winning track.
