There was no surprise when 10th ranked Science City Jena (6-7) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Oettinger Rockets Gotha (9-4) 88-80 on Sunday. It was a great shooting night for Oettinger Rockets Gotha especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.1 percentage. American guard Carlton Guyton (193-90, college: Kent St.) stepped up and scored 26 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners and his fellow American import guard Matt Vest (196-92, college: Wright St.) chipped in 6 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side American guard Wayne Bernard (190-81, college: Davidson) responded with 16 points and Panamanian-American forward Jordan Henriquez (214-89, college: Kansas St.) scored 8 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Oettinger Rockets Gotha have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Giessen 46ers and ETB Wohnbau. Science City Jena lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. They share it with Chemnitz and Kirchheim. Oettinger Rockets Gotha will meet at home Giessen 46ers (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Science City Jena will play against Hamburg (#6) and hope to secure a win.
