Rather predictable result when third ranked Herner TC (9-3) won against at home 7th ranked Eisvogel Freiburg (5-7) 78-69 on Saturday. Eisvogel Freiburg was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Herner TC made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Eisvogel Freiburg turnovers. The winners were led by American power forward Teya Wright (186-89, college: Providence) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds and international swingman Ireti Amojo (179-90, college: Washington St.) supported her with 16 points. Four Herner TC players scored in double figures. Herner TC's coach Marek Piotrowski used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 21 points and 7 rebounds by French forward Soana Lucet (185-87, college: Arizona) did not help to save the game for Eisvogel Freiburg. American power forward Kacie Sowell (188-92, college: Seattle) added 18 points and 9 rebounds. Herner TC maintains third position with 9-3 record having just three points less than leader Wasserburg. Loser Eisvogel Freiburg keeps the seventh place with seven games lost. Herner TC will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Eisvogel Freiburg will play against Oberhausen (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
