Regular Season Round 18: Mazeikiai - Nevezis 75-83

Bottom-ranked Mazeikiai (0-16) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 83-75 loss to tenth ranked Nevezis (3-15) in Mazeikiai on Saturday evening. Mazeikiai trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 14 after three quarters before a 23-17 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 75-83 at the end of the game. American forward Thomas Davis (200-91, college: SW Oklahoma St.) had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Markus Monroe (188-89, college: Wayland Baptist) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Latvian forward Raimundas Danys (196-85) with 22 points and 8 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and the former international point guard Gediminas Maceina (188-84) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Nevezis maintains tenth position with 3-15 record. Newly promoted Mazeikiai still closes the standings. Nevezis will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Mazeikiai will play against the league's second-placed Lietuvos rytas (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
