Regular Season Round 8: Zaporozhye - Khimik-2 79-66

The game between Top Four teams took place in Zaporozhye. Second ranked host Zaporozhye (8-4) defeated one of their biggest challengers Khimik-2 (7-5) 79-66. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Zaporozhye. Khimik-2 managed to win second period 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Khimik-2 52-30 including a 36-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Zaporozhye looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was forward Anton Buts (201-88) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. point guard Maksim Terianik (183-95) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Zaporozhye players scored in double figures. point guard Kyrylo Meshheryakov (184-95) produced 21 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Illya Sidorov (184-96) added 20 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Zaporozhye maintains second position with 8-4 record behind leader Avangard. Loser Khimik-2 dropped to the fourth place with five games lost. Zaporozhye will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Khimik-2 will play against Kyiv-Vovcha zgraya (#8) and hope to secure a win.
