Regular Season Round 14: Heidelberg - Cuxhaven 78-51

Very expected game when 15th ranked Cuxhaven BasCats (2-12) were smashed on the road by eighth ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (8-6) 78-51 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by MLP Academics Heidelberg. Cuxhaven BasCats was better in fourth quarter 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. MLP Academics Heidelberg forced 19 Cuxhaven BasCats turnovers. Cuxhaven BasCats were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Naturalized American center Waverly Austin (211, college: Oregon) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. American guard Bradley Tinsley (191-89, college: Vanderbilt) contributed with 17 points and 6 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four MLP Academics Heidelberg players scored in double figures. Bill Borekambi (199-92, college: Sequoias CC) replied with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Jeffrey Martin (189-94, agency: Octagon Europe) added 8 points in the effort for Cuxhaven BasCats. Cuxhaven BasCats' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. MLP Academics Heidelberg moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Hamburg and Vechta. Cuxhaven BasCats lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth position with 12 games lost. MLP Academics Heidelberg will face Bayer Giants (#14) in Leverkusen in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cuxhaven BasCats will play at home against Kirchheim Knights and hope to win that game.
