Regular Season Round 18: Lietuvos rytas - Juventus 76-61

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Vilnius. Second ranked Lietuvos rytas faced 4th ranked Juventus. Host Lietuvos rytas (14-2) defeated guests from Utena (10-6) 76-61. It looked good early as Juventus took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Lietuvos rytas had a 23-15 second period charge getting the lead and Juventus was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 61-76. Lietuvos rytas dominated on the defensive end, holding Juventus to just 7 points in third quarter. It was a good game for the former international center Antanas Kavaliauskas (207-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with 13 points and 8 rebounds. The former international guard Martynas Gecevicius (193-88) contributed with 18 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Lietuvos rytas' coach Virginijus Seskus used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Saulius Kulvietis (203-91) replied with 14 points and 7 rebounds and Simas Buterlevicius (200-89) added 10 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Juventus. Lietuvos rytas have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 14-2 record having just -1 point less than leader Zalgiris, which they share with Neptunas. Juventus lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with six games lost. Lietuvos rytas will play against bottom-ranked Mazeikiai (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Juventus will have a break next round.
