Regular Season Round 23: Ezerunas-Karys - Zalgiris II 74-72

Seventh-ranked Zalgiris II (11-12) gave a tough game to first ranked Ezerunas-Karys (18-5) in Moletai on Friday. Ezerunas-Karys managed to secure only two-point victory 74-72. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Zalgiris II. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 74-72. It was a great evening for forward Evaldas Baniulis (201-87, college: S.Carolina) who led his team to a victory scoring 30 points and 6 rebounds. Deividas Kumelis (190-95) helped adding 10 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Ezerunas-Karys players scored in double figures. Swingman Martynas Varnas (196-97) responded with 18 points and 5 assists and power forward Martynas Echodas (204-97) scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. Zalgiris II's coach Tomas Masiulis tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Ezerunas-Karys maintains first place with 18-5 record, which they share with Perlas-MRU. Zalgiris II at the other side keeps the seventh position with 12 games lost. They share it with Delikatesas and Palanga. Ezerunas-Karys is looking forward to face league's second-placed Perlas-MRU in Vilnius in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Zalgiris II will play at home against Trakai (#3) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
