Bottom-ranked Crailsheim Merlins managed to get a second victory, breaking the seven-game losing streak on Saturday night. This time they edged seventh-ranked Mitteldeutscher BC 73-71. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-15. But Mitteldeutscher BC won second period 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Crailsheim Merlins made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Crailsheim Merlins outrebounded Mitteldeutscher BC 38-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. Power forward Jannik Freese (211-86, agency: Octagon Europe) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. American point guard Garrett Sim (185-90, college: Oregon) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Four Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. American swingman Patrick Richard (196-90, college: McNeese St., agency: KMG Sports Management) replied with 17 points and 5 assists and Serbian power forward Djordje Pantelic (204-84) added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocks in the effort for Mitteldeutscher BC. Mitteldeutscher BC's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Crailsheim Merlins maintains eighteenth position with 2-12 record. Mitteldeutscher BC lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with six games lost. Crailsheim Merlins are looking forward to face higher ranked Phoenix Hagen (#15) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
