Regular Season Round 19: Mazeikiai - Lietuvos rytas 74-87
Date: December 20, 2014
Bottom-ranked Mazeikiai is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 17th consecutive match to second ranked Lietuvos rytas (15-2) 87-74 on Saturday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Lietuvos rytas. Mazeikiai managed to win fourth quarter 29-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lietuvos rytas made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Mazeikiai turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Antanas Kavaliauskas (207-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). The former international center Ksistof Lavrinovic (209-79) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. Lietuvos rytas' coach Virginijus Seskus used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Vytautas Pikalavicius (196-90) answered with 9 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Ignas Razutis (185-87) added 17 points and 4 assists in the effort for Mazeikiai. Lietuvos rytas have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain second place with 15-2 record having just -1 point less than leader Zalgiris. Newly promoted Mazeikiai still closes the standings. Lietuvos rytas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Mazeikiai will play at home against the league's leader Zalgiris (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
