There was no surprise in Istanbul where 18th ranked Mersin (2-10) was defeated by fourteenth ranked Pertevniyal (4-8) 87-72 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Pertevniyal. Mersin was better in fourth quarter 27-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Pertevniyal outrebounded Mersin 46-25 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Pertevniyal made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was center Emircan Kosut (216-95) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. American power forward Damen Bell-Holter (206-90, college: ORU) chipped in 9 points and 13 rebounds. Four Pertevniyal players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Henry Antwan Dobie (183-78, college: LIU Brooklyn) who recorded 27 points and 4 assists and American-Lebanese swingman Antwain Barbour (196-82, college: Kentucky, agency: Three Eye Sports) added 28 points and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Pertevniyal moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Final Genclik and Mamak DSI. Mersin lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with ten games lost. Pertevniyal will face higher ranked Meliksah (#10) in Kayseri in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Mersin will play at home against Yesilgiresun (#11) and hope to win that game.
