Regular Season Round 15: ETB Wohnbau - Jena 103-98

Very expected game in Essen where 9th ranked Science City Jena (7-8) was defeated by fifth ranked ETB Wohnbau (10-5) 103-98 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 27-23. But Science City Jena won second period 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when ETB Wohnbau won last quarter 37-33. They made 33-of-42 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Science City Jena turnovers. ETB Wohnbau looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Science City Jena was plagued by 35 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American point guard Chris Alexander (186-83, college: Southern) who led his team to a victory scoring 37 points (!!!). His fellow American import point guard Gary Johnson (188-82, college: Cent.Florida) helped adding 22 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was American guard Brady Morningstar (190-86, college: Kansas, agency: Interperformances) with 25 points and Panamanian-American forward Jordan Henriquez (214-89, college: Kansas St.) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. ETB Wohnbau moved-up to second place, which they share with Gotha and Giessen 46ers. Science City Jena at the other side keeps the ninth position with eight games lost. ETB Wohnbau will face Hamburg (#6) on the road in the next round. Science City Jena will play against Oettinger Rockets Gotha and hope to win that game.
