Regular Season Round 9: Vasco - FC Porto 56-80

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Porto: FC Porto Ferpinta (#1) and Vasco (#7). Vasco was crushed at home by 24 points 56-80 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Vasco. The game was mostly controlled by FC Porto Ferpinta. Vasco managed to win second period 22-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. FC Porto Ferpinta forced 20 Vasco turnovers and outrebounded them 49-25 including a 31-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Joao Fernandes (198-94) stepped up and scored 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and international Miguel Queiroz (202-91) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was guard Joao Veludo (177-92) with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and Davide Sequeira scored 14 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. FC Porto Ferpinta (8-0) have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. FC Porto Ferpinta maintains first place with a perfect record of 8 victories in a row. Newly promoted Vasco keeps the seventh position with five games lost. FC Porto Ferpinta is looking forward to face Academia (#4) in Lisboa in the next round. Vasco will play on the road against Sangalhos and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
