12th ranked Tofas (4-8) fell to fifteenth ranked Istanbul BSB (3-9) in overtime by nine points 67-76 on Wednesday night. The game took place in Bursa. But the guests from Istanbul were better at the end. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 18-8. But Tofas won second period 18-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Tofas used huge pressure winning it 17-16 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 5-14. The winners were led by American power forward Alex Stepheson (208-87, college: USC) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds and forward Caner Topaloglu (199-85) supported him with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Istanbul BSB's coach Murat Polat used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even a double-double of 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks by Nigerian power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206-87, college: Texas A&M) did not help to save the game for Tofas. American point guard DaShaun Wood (185-85, college: Wright St.) added 13 points and 7 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Istanbul BSB maintains fifteenth position with 3-9 record. Tofas at the other side dropped to the thirteenth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Usak. Istanbul BSB will meet at home higher ranked Karsiyaka (#5) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Tofas will play against TED Kolejliler (#10) in Ankara and hope to secure a win.
