Regular Season Round 11: Benfica - CAB Madeira 62-90

Undefeated leader CAB Madeira delivered the twelfth consecutive victory. This time they crushed 6th ranked Benfica (6-6) 90-62. The game was mostly controlled by CAB Madeira. Benfica was better in second period 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. CAB Madeira dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Benfica's 36. CAB Madeira forced 19 Benfica turnovers and outrebounded them 42-28 including 16 on the offensive glass. It was a quality performance for American forward Julie Forster (185-91, college: Albany) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 18 rebounds. Her fellow American import forward Ashley Bruner (183, college: S.Carolina, agency: Josep and Nicolas) accounted for 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Four CAB Madeira players scored in double figures. The former international guard Sofia Ramalho (167-80) came up with 24 points and 4 steals and naturalized Serbian guard Jovana Nogic (180-97) added 13 points respectively for Benfica in the defeat. Benfica's coach Andre Cardoso gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the twelfth consecutive win for CAB Madeira. They maintain first place with 12-0 record. Benfica lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth position with six games lost. CAB Madeira's next round opponent will be Boa Viagem (#4) in Angra Heroismo. Benfica will play on the road against Uniao Sportiva in Ponta Delgada and hope to win that game.
