Regular Season Round 17: Cluj Napoca - Satu Mare 45-70

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Satu Mare (8-8) smashed on the road 11th ranked Cluj Napoca (3-14) 70-45. The game was mostly controlled by Satu Mare. Cluj Napoca was better in fourth quarter 20-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Cluj Napoca to just 5 points in second quarter and to 12 points in first half. They outrebounded Cluj Napoca 54-32 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Flavia Ferenczi (175-91) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 17 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Center Luminita Manta (192-90) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Satu Mare's coach Peter Eles felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. point guard Cristina Gavrila (172-95) answered with 16 points and 6 rebounds and American guard Stephanie Gardner (170, college: ODU) added 5 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Cluj Napoca. Satu Mare have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain eighth place with 8-8 record. Cluj Napoca at the other side keeps the eleventh position with 14 games lost. They share it with Craiova. Satu Mare will play against higher ranked CSM Targoviste (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cluj Napoca will play against Rapid (#14) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
