Rather predictable result when ninth ranked Magdeburg (8-8) defeated at home 11th ranked Hertener Loewen (6-9) 90-74 on Sunday. Magdeburg shot 24 for 32 from the free-throw line, while Hertener Loewen only scored five points from the stripe. Hertener Loewen was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American center Scooter Gillette (206-90, college: Fair Dickinson) who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Steven Monse (200-90) helped adding 21 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American point guard Deshaun Cooper (173-91, college: NW Missouri St.) with 26 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Felix Neumann (201-90) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 17 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Magdeburg moved-up to sixth place in Group North, which they share with Oldenburg and Dresden. Loser Hertener Loewen keeps the eleventh position with nine games lost. Magdeburg will face Itzehoe (#10) at home in the next round. Hertener Loewen will play against USC Leipzig and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
