Regular Season Round 15: Speyer - Langen 63-91

Date: January 11, 2015
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked TV Langen and 11th ranked Speyer had identical 4-9 record. But Speyer was not able to use a home court advantage and was outscored by the opponent from Langen 91-63 on Sunday night. TV Langen dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Speyer's 30 and made 27-of-34 free shots (79.4 percent) during the game. TV Langen looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Speyer's players. It was a great evening for American power forward Martinis Woody (201-82, college: Benedict) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Center Tom-Niclas Alte (205-95) helped adding 16 points and 9 rebounds. Four TV Langen players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Benjamin Kaufhold (186-89) with 19 points and 5 assists and American Marcus Smallwood (200-82, college: N.Illinois, agency: R.H.Consultancy) scored 8 points and 14 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. TV Langen maintains ninth place in Group South with 5-9 record. Loser Speyer dropped to the tenth position with ten games lost. TV Langen will face higher ranked BG Karlsruhe (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Speyer will play against Fraport Skyliners II (#8) in Frankfurt and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
