Regular Season Round 12: Veilchen - Barmer TV 78-50
Date: January 11, 2015
Rather expected game when 6th ranked Barmer TV (6-6) was smashed by fourth ranked Veilchen (8-4) in Goettingen 78-50 on Sunday. The game without a history. Veilchen led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Barmer TV's 30 and made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Barmer TV 46-26 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for American guard Monique Smalls (168-91, college: Texas Tech) who led her team to a victory with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). The other American import power forward Nicole Jones (188-89, college: Drexel) contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American guard Paige Sickmiller (175, college: Wayne St., MI) replied with 11 points and guard Wiebke Bruns (178-90, college: Houston Baptist) added 11 points in the effort for Barmer TV. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Veilchen moved-up to third place in North, which they share with Wolfenbuettel. Newly promoted Barmer TV dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. Veilchen will face Hagen Phoenix (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Barmer TV will play against Hannover (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
