Regular Season Round 18: Alba Iulia - Timisoara 94-58

Very expected game when 8th ranked Timisoara (8-10) was smashed on the road by third ranked Alba Iulia (15-3) 94-58 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Alba Iulia. Timisoara managed to win fourth quarter 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Alba Iulia forced 36 Timisoara turnovers. Strangely Timisoara outrebounded Alba Iulia 48-28 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. American forward Jessica Kuster (188-92, college: Rice) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and Canadian power forward Wumi Agunbiade (188-92, college: Duquesne) supported her with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Four Alba Iulia players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 10 points and 16 rebounds by Serbian power forward Jefimija Karakasevic (191-89) did not help to save the game for Timisoara. Serbian center Jelena Maksimovic (192-82) added 14 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Alba Iulia have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Targoviste. Loser Timisoara keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. They share it with Satu Mare. Alba Iulia will meet ICIM Arad (#4) on the road in the next round. Timisoara will play against Satu Mare (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
