Regular Season Round 13: Trier - Speyer 62-78

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Speyer / Schifferstadt (9-4) beat on the road 12th ranked Trier (1-12) 78-62 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Speyer / Schifferstadt. Trier was better in fourth quarter 23-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Trier to just 7 points in second quarter. Quite impressive performance for forward Uta Gelbke (177-86) who helped to win the game recording 21 points. Canadian forward Grace Fishbein (180-90) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Speyer / Schifferstadt players scored in double figures. Forward Leonie Edringer (182-95) answered with 13 points and American guard Johnette Walker (173-87, college: Radford) added 6 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Trier. Trier's coach Michael Edringer rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Speyer / Schifferstadt. They moved-up to fourth place in South, which they share with Heidelberg. Trier lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the eleventh position with 12 games lost. Speyer / Schifferstadt will face higher ranked Ladybaskets Wuerzburg (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Trier will play against ASC Theresianum Mainz (#6) and hope to win that game.
