Regular Season Round 17: Gediz - Socar Petkim 78-81

A very interesting game took place in Gediz. It ended with only three-point home defeat of 11th ranked Gediz (8-9) to sixth ranked Socar Petkim (10-7) 81-78 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. American forward Tyler Smith (201-86, college: Tennessee) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. American-DR Congolese center Bambale Osby (203-86, college: Maryland) contributed with 13 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Osby is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward K'Zell Wesson (201-77, college: La Salle) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and power forward Eren Ocakturk (204-87, agency: 1x1 Sports) added 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Gediz. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Socar Petkim maintains sixth place with 10-7 record. Gediz at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the tenth position with nine games lost. Socar Petkim's next round opponent will be league's leader Denizli in Pamukkale and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gediz will play at home against Mamak DSI (#13) and hope to win that game.
