Regular Season Round 18: Galati - Craiova 83-81

Twelfth-ranked Craiova (3-15) was very close to win a game against fifth ranked Galati (12-6). Galati managed to secure only two-point victory 83-81. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Craiova won third quarter 21-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Craiova 41-24 including a 21-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Craiova was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American center Chelsey Lee (193-89, college: Rutgers) had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import Ivory James (174, college: Wright St.) chipped in 21 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) during the contest. Galati's coach Theodosios Paralikas allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was swingman Irina Bors (178-88) with 20 points and 8 assists and Serbian Marija Radovic (186-91) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Galati have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 12-6 record. Craiova at the other side keeps the twelfth place with 15 games lost. Galati will play against league's leader Sf.Gheorghe in Sfantu Gheorghe in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Craiova will play at home against Brasov (#6) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
