Bottom-ranked Academico FC managed to get a third victory, breaking the series of three consecutive loses on Saturday night. This time newly promoted Academico FC won against tenth-ranked Alges in Porto 54-41. The game without a history. Academico FC led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Alges to just 5 points in first quarter. Academico FC held Alges to an opponent 21.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 33.3 percent accuracy of the winners. Point guard Susana Lopes (168-96) stepped up and scored 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and swingman Ana Paula Silva (168-88) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side international Dora Duarte (174-86) responded with 8 points and 10 rebounds and power forward Chelsea Guimaraes (189-97) scored 7 points and 9 rebounds. Alges' coach Alberto Saraiva rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Academico FC (3-10) moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Lousada. Alges lost eighth consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh position with 11 games lost. Academico FC is looking forward to face higher ranked Olivais (#8) in Coimbra in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Alges will play at home against Uniao Sportiva and are hoping to win this game.
